Something To Ponder

Hey y'all,
Again I am really sorry for posting late, but this week has been just as crazy. I am really sick so all I have been doing is listening to music. Music is the universal language and it is so powerful and amazing but I really don't think people realize what it takes to master an instrument.
I have played many instruments but I have never mastered one. I feel like there is a certain connection on has to an instrument that is almost given to you at birth. If you look at John Mayer and watch his passion for the guitar, it almost seems unnatural. Now I know that not everyone likes John Mayer's songs but you have to give the man credit when it comes to his guitar skills. I have just been wondering how someone with no musical talent could get to his level or if it is even possible. I will have much more exciting things to write about next week.
Have a great rest of the week and weekend.

P.S If you want to see how funny John Mayer is too, I recommend reading his blog about the battling studios. It is entertaining and really interesting!

Over looked

Hey ya'll,
I am so sorry that it has been a while since my last post, but life as a college student has been CRAZY. I feel like every teacher has piled tons of work on but that isn't what I am here to talk about.

Sports are huge at the University of Tennessee and I feel like every one has a special place in the UT students hearts except one; Baseball. Now I know that there must be a few students that know all of the players names and positions, but I didn't even know that the baseball season begins this weekend. UT even has an opening game where they are giving away mini statues to try to get fans interested in their program.

All of this got me thinking about the majors sports that don't seem to get any attention even though they are entertaining sports and have amazing athletes. Now most of the ones I will mention weren't created in the United States but I still feel like if people would watch them, then they might develop major fan support in America.

Maybe it is because I used to live in an area where hockey is king but being in the South it seems like hockey doesn't even exist. There are teams all over the US and Canada, and portions of our country appear totally indifferent to the game.Visualize a football team on ice and throw in body slams, fist fights, and loose teeth. It is the only sport in the United States where you can get charged with aggravated assault while playing the game. Besides the fights it also takes real talent and skill to play hockey. Being on ice skates seems like a big enough challenge but to be able to keep control of a stick and puck will impress anyone. Hockey has the spirit of football and the speed of soccer. If people could just embrace it like another American sport. Plus hockey makes anyone happy that they have all of their teeth.

Why is it that Americans cant love soccer? I know that it is the sport of the world and one of the only sports that has a world tournament outside of the Olympics. I really wish that the people of America would wake up and start watching this sport. The teams that play in the states aren't as intense or as fast paced as the European teams but the game is still amazing. You can tell that the soccer players are true athletes just by watching 15 min of them running across the field or kicking the ball 3/4 the length of the field. Soccer has so much history and the fans are way crazier than any NFL fan. If you don't believe me watch a movie called " Green Street Hooligans" it is an exaggerated look into the life of European football fans and will open your eyes as to how loyal a fan can be.

I feel like America needs some new sports and these are perfect ones for the country to embrace. I hope ya'll have a great rest of the week and enjoy opening weekend of college baseball!

Superbowl Maddness, 1000 wins, and Swimming Scandals

Hey ya'll,
When you hear the words "Super Bowl" you think of beer, chips and an amazing football game. Too bad the only thing I got out of this years Super Bowl was a salsa stain and a greater hatred for NFL refs.

I must say that I am not a huge fan of either team so I was not as excited for the game as I could have been but I still was hoping for an heart pounding game. I admit there were some very good moments in this years Super Bowl but I felt like the bad calls and the slow moving quarters took away from the game.

All day Sunday the announcers had been discussing which star players were going to make an impact during the game and I felt like the ones they were saying were going to get MVP didn't make that much of an impact. Hines Ward was talked about as being a key player during the game but the other two receivers, Santonio Holmes and Heath Miller, did more and Holmes was named MVP.

I don't deny that the Steelers have an amazing defense and they really pulled through in this game. Troy Polamalu came ready to play, with his lovely hair blowing in the wind. He was hitting hard and accurately. No one can forget the amazing 100 yard run back by linebacker, James Harrison.
For the Cardinals I don't think anyone can say anything bad about Kurt Warner. If you look at the statistics he threw more yards than the Steelers QB Ben Rothlisberger( 377 to 256 yards) and the Cardinals had more passing touchdowns than the Steelers too.

After
looking at the statistics I am sure you are wondering HOW the Cardinals lost and I have no one to blame but the res. I felt like there were so many personal fouls that weren't called and ones that were called for no reason. I am still completely shocked that there wasn't a harsher penalty for James Harrison when he started PUNCHING a member of the Cardinals offense.I also got tired of the Refs called the fumbles on Kurt Warner when his arm was moving in a forward motion, which clearly is an incomplete pass, not a fumble.

I will agree with some that this game had very exciting moments and I was on the edge of my seat when the Cardinals got that safety( I think that is where the salsa stain came from), BUT I would not go as far to say it was the best Super Bowl in history. I mean who can say that these games were better than the amazing ending to last years Super Bowl,or even the Super Bowls back in Joe Montana's day.

One small side note. Everyone should tune in to see the Lady Vols play on Thursday night against Georgia. All of us who are Vol fans are hoping to see Pat Summit(The head coach) get her 1000 win. She is an amazing coach and deserves it.

Other big issue in the world of sports is the new Michael Phelps scandal. I don't understand why everyone is so upset. Did everyone forget when all of the party pictures of Matt Lineart came out, or when Kobe Bryant hooked up with a minor. Michael Phelps just got caught smoking pot and it isn't like it was a performance enhancing drug. He is young and will make mistakes and America will have to accept it.

It is getting late on this coast. So I hope ya'll have a good rest of the week and I will write to you soon.

Hey Y'all!

So for everyone who doesn't know the Academy Awards are coming up in less than a month and everyone is wondering who is going to be the 2008 big winners. If I could I would discuss every category but I am only going to go a couple of the them.

For the best picture category my vote goes to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It is the type of story that pulls you in and you don't realize you are watching a movie until it is over.It is such a mesmerizing story that you can not ever stop watching. It is a story that makes you think, cry and laugh all in 3 hours. The Reader is a close second because of its a story. I had never heard a story like this and it opened up my eyes to a different perspective I never thought of. It is very haunting tale that pulls on your heart strings and keeps your focus from the beginning to the end.

My vote for best actor would have to be Sean Penn for the movie Milk. He delivered an amazing performance that portrayed a historic icon in the right way. Penn has been nominated four times but has won once. He deserves an award for this movie and all of the praise he can get.I am a huge Kate Winslet fan so I totally think that she deserves the award for best actress. She gave outstanding performances in two films this year( The Reader, and Revolutionary Road) and won two golden globes this past year. She has always been an amazing actress who does not conform to what Hollywood thinks actresses should look like.

This year has been a hard year in the film world because we lost many talented people such as George Carlin, Bernie Mac and Paul Newman. This years might be the first time an actor will win an award for their work after they have died. Heath Ledger deserves the award and will probably win it.Ledger's story is a very depressing one of an actor lost before his time. He gave a bone chilling performance as Batman's arch nemesis, The Joker in The Dark Knight. The role of The Joker was mentally demanding and it has transformed what people originally though a psychopath was. I think that James Brolin did an amazing job in Milk but since he is nominated against Ledger he won't win.He is an amazing actor and I am sure that he will win atleast one Ocsar in his life. For the best actress category there are so many amazing roles and performances that it is hard to pick my favorite. Since I have to pick one I believe that Taraji P. Henson from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button deserves the award. She portrayed a women who faced the ultimate test, which was to accept what is abnormal and love it. The emotion and enthusiasm that she gave to this character is amazing.

I hope that everyone gets to go out and see all of the movies that are nominated because this year is an outstanding year for movies. If people want more information on the Academy Awards then you can check out their website( http://www.oscar.com/) and read about all of the nominees.
Until next time,
~Camille

Hi Y'all!
Welcome to my very first blog. I decided to start one because I need all the help I can with my writing skills. I would like my future job to involve journalism so I figured that I would start writing here. I am going to use this blog to talk about sports, movies and pretty much anything else I think is worth writing about. I hope you all enjoy and I would love feedback in any form.
